FIatpack Festival 2018 starts 13th April
Flatpack Film Festival returns this year, bringing with it another ten days of eclectic events that run the gamut from traditional film screenings to workshops, exhibitions, live soundtracks, short films, Q&As and – perhaps most excitingly of all - the chance to make your very own Moomin! A few choice selections for you below…
A large part of this year’s Flatpack is focused on the seismic changes that the year 1968 brought to the UK (and especially Birmingham) as a whole, whether in music, politics, film or football. Events include an immersive soundwalk marking a mass student sit-in at Birmingham Uni and memories of psychedelic rock club Mothers in Erdington.
Inspired by the Ripper murders, Hitchcock's THE LODGER is widely considered his first masterpiece. For Flatpack 12, the electrifying silent chiller will hit the big screen at the Birmingham Conservatoire, accompanied by the magnificent Meg Morley, who will perform an appropriately tense score as part of a jazz trio.
Best to keep your eyes on both the screen and the heavens for this special screening of E.A. Dupont’s 1920s drama about a love triangle between three trapeze artists, as RoguePlay Theatre Company simultaneously perform some dazzling circus tricks and physical theatre alongside a live soundtrack.
A UK premiere of the long form version of Hungarian animator Réka Bucsi’s new animated film SOLAR WALK, screening at the Birmingham Conservatoire with live accompaniment from singer Susi Hydlgaard and members of the Conservatoire.
