Peter, the horse that inspired the film ridden by Meloni
ProducersForum member and former board director Deborah Aston has won a commission to produce a Creative England backed iShorts film.

Deborah teamed up with Meloni Poole through a shared passion for horses to make an inspirational film about how a young girl overcomes bullies with the help of her horse, TRiGGA backed by Creative England and it will be shooting in the region late summer.

Inspired by real events, TRiGGA is the story of a young girl who confronted the bullies with the help of her horse. As physical assaults become a daily reality, Mae retreats into a silent world and stops talking. Even her comedian father fails to get a laugh from her. Mae escapes the harsh reality of the bullies by galloping out at twilight on her trusty steed, Trigga. Everyone thinks Mae’s horse is a figment of her imagination until she takes Trigga into school. From that day, the bullying stops.

Deborah, the film’s producer and supporter of female directors, said “We're thrilled that out of hundreds of scripts sent into Creative England and BFI Network I-Shorts scheme our short film TRiGGA has been selected and I am especially excited to be working with Meloni as she is a visionary director whose work is poetic.”  She added, “We want to use the film’s personal message to help raise awareness of bullying so that children don't have to suffer in silence.”

Meloni, the film's director, said “We've had an incredible response so far. After watching our campaign promo people have shed a fair few tears and said TRiGGA 'should be seen by every young girl, in every school.’”

Since hearing from Debbie about her success at iShorts, we have also learned she now has a feature film in development with Creative England as part of their iFeatures programme. iFeatures is Creative England’s low budget filmmaking initiative supported by the BBC, the BFI and Creative Skillset. Debbie and her team were successful with their road movie, Shy Bird. Congratulations!
