UK writer/director Mark Locke makes films, TV, commercials and music promos.
Mark arrived in the late 1990s with a series of award-winning shorts made on budgets that were so shoestring they were 'that bit of plastic on the end of a shoestring'. Films including EAT IN, THE MISSING LINK, LUBE and WHEN I LEAVE THE SIXTH FORM I'M GETTING STRAIGHT INTO SOMETHING MEDIA RELATED becoming international festival, TV and internet favourites and still receiving regular screenings today.
He went on to make £3.5 million feature film CRUST, a comedy about three ordinary people from the West Midlands and a seven foot boxing shrimp (yes you read that right), starring Kevin McNally, Madhav Sharma, Naomie Harris and Ulrika Jonsson as herself. It was theatrically released in the United States and Japan (where it was such a hit it inspired a sub-genre of sporting sealife films) but CRUST remains criminally overlooked by distributors in the UK, despite eminent broadsheet critics still calling for its release.
In recent times Mark's unleashed his distinctive ideas on the world of the music promo. Often working with bands he loves, even if it sometimes means returning to the 'bit of plastic' budgets of his shorts (one was as low as £150!), Mark's already responsible for various MTV, YouTube and music industry favourites made on both sides of the Atlantic – including videos for UNKLE, Misty's Big Adventure, Jeffrey Lewis, Dinosaur Jr and Athlete.
Mark currently has a number of new projects in various stages of development, including a brand new feature film and a TV comedy series.
